Words that inspire us to take our sweat sesh to the next level.
– KEYS SOULCARE
From a guaranteed endorphin boost to honoring our bodies with pulse-pumping movement, our reasons to work out are as unique as we are. But, regardless of our motivations to move, there comes a day when every one of us could use an extra push to keep going — from clearing time in our schedules to clearing room in our heads to stick with a challenging workout to the very (sweaty) end.
Want to level up your workout? We’re sharing a few go-to mantras from trainers we love. Tuck them in your back pocket (or better yet, on a sticky note next to your sneaks) and be inspired to get (and stay) in the zone.
“Feel good, look good, do better.”
Cycling fave Alex Toussaint has mastered the art of motivation, from hip-hop-filled Peloton classes (that often exceed 20,000 participants) to mantras that even inspire brands like Nike to take heed. Bonus points for the fact that feeling good looks good on everyone — and often leads to genuine self-motivation that no mirror could ever compete with.
“Partner with your body. Integrate mind, body, [and] spirit as one being that is you.”
“Mind over matter” has its merit, but why compete with ourselves to do something for ourselves? Equal parts uplifting and badass, this quote from Chicago-based fitness trainer Elisabeth Akinwale encourages us to work with our whole selves to achieve the truly incredible.

“You can do anything for one minute.”
How many times have you gotten through a minute of something super mundane in what feels like the *blink* of an eye? (Thought so.) Those in the know — both in BedStuy and online — turn to TheFITIn founder Ife Obi for gems like this while pushing through thigh-torching reps at the barre, or breaking a socially distanced sweat.
“Yoga is for everybody and EVERY BODY.”
Beloved body positive yogi Jessamyn Stanley creates space and much-needed conversations around inclusivity, access, and what it means to be “well” as we move through our fitness practices. (We’re here for all of it.) So the next time you find yourself questioning your abilities, deservingness, or “fit” for some yoga restoration? Repeat these words and get down to business.
