– KEYS SOULCARE
Poet Rupi Kaur is a delicate weaver of words. Her chats with Alicia and our team always leave us feeling a little more creatively connected. Her latest collection of poetry, Home Body, transcends our collective struggles and provides a sense of calm and clarity at a time we need it most — so, it’s no surprise that her self-care rituals would do the same. Here is how she nurtures her soul and embraces true inner beauty.
1. What is your favorite daily ritual that’s just for you?
My morning cappuccino — I look forward to it every day.
2. My dream for the future is…
Contentment.
3. How do you take a moment for yourself?
I breathe deep and meditate.
4. What music and books are you vibing to?
I’m currently reading Are You Enjoying? by Mira Sethi. The book came out in April [of 2021], and I absolutely love it. It’s a collection of short stories that take place in Pakistan. They are disarming, emotional, and full of humor, all at the same time.
[I’ve] recently been listening to a lot of Pop Smoke and Burna Boy. I played Black is King by Beyoncé nonstop before my sisters begged me to turn it off because I’d overplayed it — but is there such a thing as overplaying Beyoncé? Alicia’s “Me x 7” has also been one of my fave tracks. Also, a lot of R&B throwbacks from the ‘90s and early 2000s. Haha, maybe I’m reminiscing [about] a time that was less complicated.
5. What is your personal mantra of the moment?
I am enough and exactly where I am supposed to be.
6. What does beauty look like to you?
Beauty looks like embracing what is unique to you. Often, we are insecure about what is unique about us. We want the look that’s most in fashion and most popular. But, in reality, what makes us unique is what makes us stand out and shine.
7. What is your favorite part about yourself?
My drive.
