Shared in media star and author Katie Couric’s bestselling book, The Best Advice I Ever Got, Alicia’s words remind us to trust the timing of our lives, do an about-face when we’re tempted to fall into the comparison trap, and keep looking for lessons rather than wins.
“Would you still do it if you’d never see a dime from it?”
These days, Alicia’s in the business of asking herself this essential question. As she attests in this CBS Sunday Morning interview, the answer is proof of how you’re considering yourself — your time, your priorities, and your peace — from moment to moment. “You [can] start to think that you have to do everything that you could possibly do to make sure that these doors remain open for you,” she’s shared. “But rest is just as important as the work.”
“That’s not even my view. That’s not even my fear. That’s not even my thing.”
In a recent sit-down with Apple Music, interviewer Zane Lowe asked Alicia what it felt like to make the ground-breaking choice to drop the facade of what an artist “should” be and show up for herself consistently and authentically.
