Connection
It’s often said that we’re the company we keep. In this increasingly online world, we’re taking heart in the growing number of creative and social communities inspiring empathy, compassion, and action — online and off.
Here are four we’re loving:
Envisioned pre-COVID-19 as a Brooklyn wellness and community space for people of color, Ethel’s Club is a “digital club” that hosts creativity and community-stoking online events popular from coast to coast. It has everything from Zoom-based movement classes to tarot readings to design talks and listening parties.
Don’t miss Girlgaze, a platform devoted to showcasing the work of womxn and non-binary creatives. It also connects creative types to paid client opportunities with the likes of Levi’s, Nike, and Dove.
Currently active in eight major U.S. cities, Deed connects you with volunteer groups and projects that could use an extra hand with a specific task. Search by causes you care about (such as food access, women’s health, or the environment) and times that fit your schedule.
Among the things we love about I Will Not Be Quiet, a mom-founded “activism group”: they spend as much time self-educating (from an IG-based #meandwhitesupremacy book circle to IG-hosted talks with climate scientists) as they do speaking and acting out, IRL.
Have an online space that feels like home or makes you feel especially seen these days? Share the love and give them a shout in the comments.
