SHE TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH
Pattie Martins | @pattie_martins
Why She Shines:
Actor, teacher, and lightworker Pattie Martins fought for a sense of “home” in her younger years. After emigrating from Portugal to London, she battled with her body image and self-worth. To counter this, she developed a fitness routine and spiritual practice. Despite reaching her personal goals, she still felt something was missing from her life, so she took a leap of faith and bought a one-way ticket to California, hoping to pursue the film career she thought she wanted. What she discovered instead was the power of manifestation and the home she always wanted — within herself and alongside a newfound love.
“When we first met everything was aligned,” shares Pattie’s nominator, and soon-to-be spouse, Rita Senhor. “The most beautiful thing she said to me was that while she was in L.A., she went to a bar and sang ’Autumn Leaves,’ manifesting her desire to find true love. When we met, I was humming and singing this tune all the time, without a clue about her connection to it.”
SHE MOVES MOUNTAINS FOR STRANGERS
Emily Nicholls | @missemilynich
Why She Shines:
Not all heroes wear capes, and Nicholls is a perfect example. This good samaritan is getting recognized for the acts of kindness she willingly and lovingly gives to total strangers. From abandoned pets to abused women, Emily raises the bar for what it means to give back to community.
“I had never met Emily, [but] I was the victim in a nationally-publicized domestic violence case,” Pam Fine, Nicholls’ nominator, tells us. “Emily reached out and offered support [and] stayed with me through it all. Her knowledge of how to help abused women comes from her own past, coupled with incredible knowledge on the subject. Sight unseen and with no financial help, Emily flew to Colorado and sat behind my family during sentencing. She stayed with me for three days to make sure the aftermath wasn’t worse than the day of the sentencing. She is beautiful, funny, intelligent, strong, knowledgeable, and a package of badass. Emily is a woman who helps other women find their personal light in the dark.”
SHE’S INSPIRING YOU TO LOOK INWARD
Tenaj Moody | @janetbackwards
Why She Shines:
Learning to confront yourself, faults and all, is hard work — which is why the world needs more heart-centered lightworkers like Tenaj Moody! As an author, a podcast host, and a keynote speaker, she is all about cultivating a community and resources to support those looking to heal and grow. Moody’s anti-domestic violence organization and newly released book, Carry It With You, are just scratching at the surface of this multi-talented leader and advocate changing our world, one person at a time.
“Introspection is not something most of us are born with,” Tenaj’s nominator and fiancé, Jason Perry, shared in reference to the power of Tenaj’s work. “Most people have events happen in their lives that force them to look inward. Some people refuse to look inward because of those events. I was in the second group. I was lucky enough to find Tenaj, a woman [who], just by her presence alone, forced me to look inward. Forced me to recognize myself. You cannot truly shine unless you are one with your inner self. Tenaj has a superpower of cutting right through people’s walls and touching the real parts of them — the squishy, vulnerable parts. I’m just one of the DOZENS of people she has helped find strength. She deserves all the roses that life will give her.”
