Learn about the inspiring women who are lighting up their own communities.
– KEYS SOULCARE
ICYMI, we’re all about spreading shine. We love uplifting the lightworkers who bring positive shifts into this world, but also everyday people doing big things in their own hometowns. We recently put a call out to our community to tell us about the people lighting up your world. And today, we’re sharing a diverse trio of women blending friendship and big love into everything they do.
Why They Shine: Devoting one’s life to serving others is admirable. Getting vulnerable about the self — and soulcare — is awe-inspiring, and exactly why Alexis Kline nominated her sis.
“I’m nominating my sister Morgan for sooo many reasons,” said Alexis, who calls sister Morgan her “ride or die, rock, and therapist” rolled into one. “I have watched her work her ass off to learn and implement techniques — whether it be journaling, meditating, exercising, etc. — to take control of her life. She has done all this while maintaining to be a person of encouragement and love to not only myself, but [also to] her third grade students, friends, family, and even strangers. I believe she is so deserving of some appreciation.”
Why We Love Them: On top of the fact that Morgan and her sis clearly have each other’s back, we were touched by how much Morgan’s own soulcare journey has had a positive ripple effect.
Why They Shine: Sasha nominated herself… and we’re so totally here for it. “I am usually the friend who everyone comes to with their problems because I give them great advice, but never could really take it myself,” admitted McElroy, who’s making ongoing strides to turn all that love inward, too.
“Just recently, I’ve had a weird switch in mindset,” she tells us. “The person in the past [showed] me that now that I’ve helped everyone, it was time to focus on fixing myself. I have finally chosen myself, and started [to focus] on my happiness a bit more.”
Why We Love Them: We’re all about how McElroy’s taking a step back to reflect on every leap forward she’s making.
“No, it’s not easy,” she tells us. “I still get hurt, but a lot less than before. I’d like to thank myself for being my person and finally deciding to focus on what I want in life, turn over a new leaf, and be truly happier and more myself than ever before!”
Why They Shine: The inspo factor between Donis and her bestie Destiny Miller goes way back, spanning across military service, motherhood, and more.
“I met Gladi running on a track in January 2013, [as] we were preparing to leave for Marine Corps boot camp,” says Miller, who notes Donis’ unique mix of tenacity, presence, and love as the secret sauce behind being a great leader and friend.
“I have seen this warrior push herself even when she had nothing left to give,” adds Miller. “She would do my bun for me every night in boot camp and even on a deployment in Korea. She takes care of her Marines not only as a leader, but as familia. [And] she is a badass single mom! She has also been open with her struggle with Vitiligo to her social media community to help us better understand what it’s like to deal with a health condition that also affects your perspective on outward beauty.”
Why We Love Them: “It takes a strong amount of willpower and self-love to grow through challenges such as these, and Gladi [has done] it with so much grace and dignity,” Miller shares. “From the day I met her, she has shown me what it means to challenge yourself to be the greatest version of you.” (And we couldn’t have said it better than that.)
