Alicia reminds us that believing in ourselves, and our ability to do great things, is always an option.

“Will we ever be comfortable being excellent? Being unique? Achieving success? Sometimes you have to get out of your own way and make a choice!” — Alicia Keys
Fresh off of a virtual spinning session with @RobinNYC, Alicia was struck by the words the Peloton instructor imparted before the ride began: Are you going to give yourself the permission to win?
We rarely start things hoping they’ll go badly. But there’s a huge difference in taking initiative and truly believing in our hearts that we might be awesome, given the right energy and effort. Sometimes we call it “being realistic.” Sometimes, we catch ourselves in a cycle of negative self-talk about how things aren’t “meant” to work out for us.
Other times, we’re so afraid of the temporary discomfort success may bring that it feels safer to just hang back or blend in. As Alicia puts it in the video, the little voice in your head that says, “Who am I to think I’m so good at this?” is not our friend.
“I have found myself holding back because I don’t wanna be ‘the only one’,” Alicia goes on to share. “Or, I don’t wanna make it seem like I’m leaving people behind… or, I feel uncomfortable that I might stand out…but when you give yourself the permission to win, people start learning, ‘Oh! I can have permission to win, too’.”
So, be bold. (And even badass, when the situation calls for it.) But first? Give yourself the green light to win.
