The scent savant dishes on the cup-filling practices that make her soul glow.
– KEYS SOULCARE
When she isn’t tending to toddlers and running a business, NOVA founder Julia Zangrilli is savoring those oh-so-relatable pieces of peace. Balancing motherhood, self-care, and entrepreneurship is no easy task, but Julia is sharing her heart-centered secrets to solitude in our signature Soulcare 7.
Your favorite daily ritual that’s just for you?
My skincare! Every morning and evening, I retreat to my bathroom and go through an assortment of products. There have been periods in raising my two toddlers where I only had time or energy for the bare minimum, but the ideal routine includes exfoliation followed by a mask. In the morning, I use serums, rich balms, oils, and creams. It’s not just about vanity; I treasure feeling really nourished and abundant.
Your dream for the future?
My dream is to go for a masters or PhD to become a psychotherapist and have a private practice. I’d love to weave in the work I do now, using scent as treatment in some capacity.
Your favorite part about yourself?
My sense of humor. I have a very constant, perhaps automatic need to see things from a laughable perspective. I’m always trying to make a joke out of things and I really luxuriate in that lightness because it’s very much a respite from the darker elements of my personality.
How do you take a moment for yourself?
The most cup-filling way of taking a moment is hanging with my close friends IRL over a meal and/or drinks. There’s nothing like the energy of a group of people who trust, love, and want the best for each other. It really brings grounding and perspective — as well as levity!
Your personal mantra of the moment?
Anywhere = everywhere. It comes from the fact that if I can’t find contentment everywhere, I won’t find it anywhere. If you can find satisfaction in the moment then you can stop searching. It’s accepting life as it unfolds, which is in defiance of the notion that things can always be better.
What music, book, and/or podcast are you vibing to?
Honestly, I listen to so much kids music that I find myself craving silence more than anything. In terms of podcasts, my current favorite is Dr. Becky’s Good Inside. She’s a clinical psychologist who builds awareness and shares tactics surrounding a range of behaviors in service of providing emotional support to everyone in the family.
What does beauty look like to you?
My favorite version of beauty occurs when you can see that a person is coming from a place of self-acceptance and self-love. I do think beauty comes from within and that inner love makes the people around them glow. There’s a dynamism about people who love themselves because doing so requires wisdom (which is inherently rebellious), presence, and strong practice of boundaries. I think we all drift in and out of this type of beauty, and mindfulness is about trying to sit in this space for as long as possible.
