– KEYS SOULCARE
Our skincare expert is back, but she’s getting more than skin-deep for this edition of “Ask Dr. Renée.” Today’s focus? Eyecare 101. Our sensitive orbs need more than just the right amount of hydration to stay bright and focused — and Dr. Renée has the DIY tips to power your holistic eyecare rituals, ASAP.
1. Take your vitamins.
Protecting our eyes’ macula — a.k.a. the area at the center of the retina that helps us see details of objects in front of us — is a big deal. I recommend nourishing supplements [that contain] lycopene, lutein, trans-zeaxanthin, astaxanthin, mixed carotenes, and vitamin E.
2. Stay ahead of the game.
In your 20s, start using an under eye cream! (But if you haven’t, it’s never too late to start.)
3. Work your body, not your face.
So many of my patients are active athletes, so if I’m doing Botox or recommending skincare for patients, I try to remind them not to work out with their face. That means [you should] stop squinting when doing that extra five pounds on the dumbbells or conquering that steep incline sprint on the treadmill! You are just recruiting other muscles on the face to do the job during that push. Plus, you are burning no extra calories working out your face.
4. Practice sun safety.
We all need some exposure to get some vitamin D, but remember the bottom line: always, always use sunscreen.
5. Be mindful of your screen time.
If you are on Zoom calls or in front of a screen all day, consider a blue light filter for your screen settings. It will save your eyes and your skin! It’s “pre-juvenation” — preservation and rejuvenation!
