OUR DERMATOLOGIST
Meet Dr. Renée Snyder
We’ve partnered with board-certified dermatologist Renée Snyder, M.D. to create clean, safe, and effective offerings — always cruelty-free. Certified by the American Board of Dermatology, Dr. Snyder works closely with Alicia Keys and the Keys Soulcare team on the formulation of every skincare offering.
As a teen struggling with her own skin, Dr. Snyder visited a dermatologist who was not only able to correct her skin, but unlocked her self esteem, self confidence and her ability to feel whole again. This transformation was why she became a physician and why she is so passionate about healthy skin — knowing first-hand how it can make people feel empowered, confident, and very strong.
- Dr. Snyder currently practices dermatology in Austin, Texas.
- She is listed as a “Super Doctor,” an honor that identifies top doctors as selected by their peers, and she is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
- Over 14 years ago, Dr. Snyder helped catapult the clean beauty revolution by launching W3ll People, one of the original high performance cosmetic natural brands and knows it takes more than just being a clean product in today’s world that matters.
What is a dermatologist?
A dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in conditions involving the skin, hair, and nails. Dermatologists can also address cosmetic issues, helping to revitalize the appearance of the skin, hair, and nails. The skin is the largest organ of the body, so an actual physician who has gone to medical school must be aware of how what’s happening inside of the body can manifest itself outside of the body. Dermatologists have extensive training and knowledge from the anatomy of the facial muscles, nerves and skin composition to the science at the cellular level. Dermatologists that are certified by the American Board of Dermatology possess additional skills, like managing your safety.
What is the difference between dermatologist-developed, dermatologist-tested and dermatologist-approved?
While there are no regulated definitions, these terms generally refer to the dermatologist’s level of involvement in developing, testing or approving a particular brand or product:
Dermatologist-Developed: Often more casually called “derm-developed”, means that a dermatologist was actively involved in the development of a product formulation, and typically also includes testing and approval.
Dermatologist-Tested: This means, at its most basic, that a product was tested by or in consultation with a dermatologist for tolerance and signs of skin reactions. This generally means that the product is also dermatologist-approved.
Dermatologist-Approved: This implies that there has been a clinical study conducted by a third party test lab with an appropriate methodology and success criteria that is overseen, reviewed, and signed off by a Board Certified dermatologist (third party).
All Keys Soulcare offerings are dermatologist-developed, meaning as the in-house dermatologist, I work closely with our chemists on the formulation of every skincare offering to ensure efficacy and safety, while also utilizing and referencing literature studies to recommend effective levels of ingredients in our offerings.
