Team Soulcare’s confidence-boosting rituals for embracing your body — even when it’s hard.
– KEYS SOULCARE
Loving our bodies is no easy feat. In a world filled with photoshopped images and one-size-fits-all beauty standards, feeling whole and worthy, right where you are, is a challenge. Family dynamics, social circles, and the media can all impact our body image. For better or worse, how we perceive ourselves physically and emotionally is heavily influenced by what we consume on- and offline.
To spread positivity and light on body love, Team Soulcare discusses how they nurture their own bodies. Keep reading for the rituals, advice, and real talk we all need.
Self-Massage
When indulging in a spa day is not possible, the next best thing is self-massage. Self-massage boasts the same benefits we love, including stress relief, improved circulation, and decreased anxiety. Team Soulcare’s in-house editorial maven, Margit Detweiler, shares that self-massage is her go-to body ritual.
“I’m busy — with work and life — so it’s not always possible to stop for a massage. To make up for this, I take a moment to use the Sacred Body Oil for a quick hand or scalp massage. It’s lightweight, the oils are nourishing, and I can do it anywhere. I don’t have to feel guilty about self-caring the ‘wrong’ way. I’m doing it my way, and that works for me.” — Margit, Editorial Director
Mirror Work
One of the more direct approaches to loving your body is facing yourself. Team Soulcare editor, Mare, says that leaving their comfort zone through this powerful practice jump-started their body acceptance.
“It’s awkward! I still dance, stand, or talk in the mirror to ground myself in the reality of my body rather than sitting with what I think my body looks like. I say a few affirmations, even when I don’t believe them, to create a better inner dialogue with myself.” — Mare, Editor
Practice Gratitude
Loving your body is a mindfulness practice, just like gratitude. Team Soulcare editor, Kelsey, shares that journaling has been essential to her mindset shift and key to thanking her body.
“Writing has always been a major part of my creative and emotional expression. Using journaling as a tool in my body love practice was a no-brainer. Writing lets me release negativity without judgment and gives me space to appreciate everything my body does for me daily. It’s my way to unplug, too — which is always great for our mental health.” — Kelsey, Editor
Meditative Movement
Doing something that makes your body feel good every day can improve your body image and your mood. Team Soulcare Account Manager, Shaneice, never misses a mindful moment through breathwork and sunrise yoga.
“I don’t always make it to the mat at a certain time, but I aim to get up before the world wakes. It’s quieter for me to focus on just myself. Now that it’s darker in the A.M. I can light my Sage + Oat Milk candle and sink in the glow. It’s a calming way to ease into my mornings.” — Shaneice, Account Manager
Body Neutrality
If being body positive seems like a reach, try body neutrality. Creating a space to observe your body and take care of your body’s needs is an excellent place to be.
“You don’t have to like your body to be aware of it. If I am not feeling myself one day, I don’t force anything negative or positive. I swap out negative thoughts with humanizing the issue, like ‘textured skin is normal’ or give myself credit for going for a walk even if I wanted to run. Body neutrality feels more authentic and grounded.” — Danielle, Business Development Manager
