You have more control than you think.
– KEYS SOULCARE
“This quote got me: ‘Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional.’ Could it be? Could suffering be optional? How? Is it so in some cases and others not? This has so many layers to it…”
For this Piece of Peace, Alicia takes a page from someone else’s book. Our Goddess-In-Chief treated us to this #SoulcareSunday moment inspired by one of her favorite authors, Isabel Allende.
In Allende’s best-seller A Long Petal of the Sea, the Chilean novelist reminds readers of the famous adage that suffering is optional. The soulful translation? Your mindset can be your healing or your undoing. While pain and discomfort are parts of life, focusing on what hurts or is going “wrong” can put you in a mental prison.
What is the best advice? Shift perspective to move forward and heal. You can accept the negativity surrounding your circumstances and understand it is only temporary. You can make a tough decision that disappoints someone and still know it is the best option. There will always be duality in life; as Alicia said, there are so many layers.
Just remember that you have the power to see beyond the surface and follow your path far beyond the obstacles set before you.
