Inhale peace, exhale possibility. This powerful passage from Alicia’s More Myself is giving us life.
– KEYS SOULCARE
“Most of us take about 16 breaths per minute. That means we typically breathe 960 times an hour, or around 23,000 times a day. During my two glorious weeks of silence, I had more than 322,000 opportunities to breathe my way into a new existence.” — Alicia Keys
While she was in Egypt, on a life-changing, solo retreat that she details in her book More Myself, Alicia was in awe of the often-silent wonder that is breath — the instinctive, unconscious act that fuels our minds, limbs, and everything we’ll ever accomplish.
Each in-breath holds all we need to reignite cells and power our bodies. Each exhale is a super-efficient release of things that don’t serve us. And all of this happens 23,000 times per day.
Breath’s powerful cycle makes it clear that everything about us is equipped for constant renewal, from our goals and interests to our hobbies and habits. We’re perpetually growing and exploring over the course of a lifetime.
There’s much less need to “rethink” our lives when we consider that they are in a constant state of change. One incredible breath at a time.
