They say that hindsight is 20/20. And while that idea is often linked — and totally applicable — to things we may not have done, the same rings true for all the self-love we likely skipped over, too.
Today, we’re hitting “rewind” and sharing a few things that we’d tell ourselves back in the day to show a little more love, compassion, and even humor for where our paths ended up going. Read on for our best notes to self.
“Be bold. Be brave. Be true to yourself. Never give up. I struggled hard with loving myself. I took many uncharted courses to find what ‘loving myself’ really meant. Am I 100%? No. And, every time I hear Alicia talk about her journey, I am reminded that we are always trying to be better and learning to love ourselves.” — Patrick, VP, Integrated Marketing Communications
“Nothing brings happiness like being 100% unapologetically yourself. You’re perfect because you’re you!” — Ari, Account Manager
“Take more risks — it’s ok to be a big weirdo! Also maybe pay more attention in class, less attention to that dreamy boy in biology.” — Margit, Editorial Director
“Carrying a snare drum to the school bus stop every day is not the best look, but don’t quit!” — Tiffany, Content Director
“I would say to her normal isn’t real, it’s relative; and who wants to be normal in the end anyway when you can be as special as you are? I didn’t recognize my light and power, and I constantly looked outside myself for validation despite my parents reinforcing me. I just wanted to be ‘normal,’ fit in, and blend in. Now, I know better and though I’m still a work-in-progress, I see that my light was always shining. Moving at your own pace, doing, wearing, and being whoever and whatever you like is the true flex! Shining at full wattage is being your whole, unabashed self and being proud of her!” — Nichole, Senior Brand Director
