We’re sharing some of our favorite moments from her new NOTED series on Youtube.
– KEYS SOULCARE
“I like challenging myself to say exactly what I feel. I’m letting go of my fears, my insecurities. I am done giving my power away. I’m a woman. A woman who has so much love to give. And that’s what I love about this journey that I’m on. I’ve realized you don’t have to sacrifice any part of you for success. And, to me, that’s the ultimate freedom.” — Alicia Keys
Alicia’s new docuseries, NOTED: Alicia Keys The Untold Stories, takes an all-exclusive, deeper look into the people and turning points that shaped her as a daughter, mother, partner, and performer. It’s also brimming with vulnerability, truth, and tenderness, sure to inspire you to walk in your truth, too.
Here are a three quotes that really stuck with us:
“Nobody makes you, period. And I definitely thought other people made me for a long time. And even though they contribute to your process, to your journey… they don’t make you.”
Alicia’s exchange with Universal Music Chairwoman and CEO Jody Gerson (who recalls getting Alicia’s first demo on a hand-scrawled cassette tape) gives a priceless peek into her past. At the end, she acknowledges that her most freeing phase of artistry began the moment she realized that trusting herself was the key to unlocking her power as a creative and businesswoman.
(Editor’s note: We have to mention Alicia’s mini meditation with our Sage + Oat Milk candle before sitting down to get into flow with her piano!)
“When I meditate, I ask myself, ‘What do you want to let go of?’ And the answer, nine times out of ten, is judgment. I don’t need to let go of other people judging me — I don’t care about that. But I definitely want to let go of me judging me.”
Alicia’s sense of calm and ease with herself as she sits down for one of her signature morning meditations is palpable. Something else we loved? The contrast between her “no effs given” about the reality of others’ judgment and awareness that her own self-judgement is always a work in progress.
“We’re not competitive. We just have two whole different lanes. We’re not even trying to occupy the same lanes. That works really well for us… “
How does Alicia make her love with hit maker and entrepreneur Swizz Beatz work so well? It all boils down to knowing (and accepting) themselves so they can love one another with honesty and humility even while they’re shining, too.
