If joy is so important, why do many feel a deficit? While the survey revealed a wide range of obstacles, the primary villain is actually our own inner critic.
73% of respondents admitted to encountering negative self-talk in their daily lives, and 91% of those who experienced it acknowledged that it’s standing in their way of joy.
As Mel Robbins says, “when we silence our inner critic, we open ourselves up to more joy. And we all deserve to feel more joy.” Her 3-part science-backed approach is called “The Three Is,” because you 1. Identify your inner critic, 2. Interrupt the pattern and 3. Transform negative thoughts into positive action — use them as a catalyst to change one small thing that will bring you more joy.
4. I PROTECT MY INNER LIGHT
Protect that little part of you that you can’t see but you can feel — shielding it from intrusive thoughts.
5. I GIVE MYSELF PERMISSION TO GLOW
When those thoughts come knocking, deny them admission and instead give yourself permission to shine at full wattage.
