Crystals have the power to transform our spaces and our skin for the better. So when we learned that Asha Patel — a pharmacist-turned-jewelry designer known for enclosing designs with personalized crystal “prescription” cards — was a Keys Soulcare fan, we knew we had to meet her. Here’s our chat about how stones inspire her work and a few tips for incorporating them into your days and wardrobe.
I like to think of them as “vibrational surround sound.” They’re such a big part of nature — and they’re everywhere. So, incorporating them in a way where others can share their meanings through symbolism and intention is kind of how I go about it. My process is multifactorial: I often source [them] from India on trips home to see my parents and in-laws. So my relationship to the stones starts raw and at their sources, versus a trade show or store. It feels better that way.
Initially, they started as an offering: an additional layer of information for my clients, along with their purchase. The “prescription” part is a nod to my background as a pharmacist. I think a lot of people want just a little bit extra knowledge about the stones they’ve chosen. A few are specific to my most popular gemstones, and then there’s a more [general] one that talks more about the power of touchstones throughout our day.
I love hearing about what folks do with them! I’ve had a lot of people that use them as keepsake bookmarks, which I think is pretty cool. And I’ve also started including a bit of crystal quartz in each as an extra treat. It’s a master healer that I carry around in my purse, but others put them on their desks or bedsides.
I’m old school, so one book that I always go back to is called The Crystal Bible. It’s a guide to everything about crystals: their natural environments, hardness, symbolism, history, and folklore. It’s a one-stop shop of sorts!
I love crystal quartz, just because it’s an all-encompassing healer. And malachite — all about the transformation, especially in times like these. Black onyx and obsidian are also amazingly grounding.
I’d probably pick labradorite, because it’s a protective stone.
Rose quartz! For sure. Be it for self-love or [the] love of others. I think we all need some extra doses of love.
Crystal quartz — the master healer.
Any of the moonstones, from rainbow to peach to grey. They all amplify feminine energy and love, and I gravitate towards those things. They’re subtle hues, but such powerful gems.
And I love a good selenite stick, just to clear the negative energy. I don’t use it in jewelry, because it’s a fairly soft stone, but they’re beautiful and I use them to clear the air in my own space quite often.
I’m most proud when people integrate my work into their own spiritual and self-love practices — whether that be through yoga or simply reaching for pieces throughout their days as a way to center themselves.
