ASK DR. RENÉE: HOW DO YOU SOULCARE?
Your favorite derm shares a few of her soulcare faves.
– KEYS SOULCARE
It’s not up for debate: Dr. Renée always has the best skincare advice. From in-flight skincare, to advice for every decade, our resident dermatologist keeps us in the know and our complexions glowing. But as the skincare expert behind every offering, have you ever wondered how the doc does soulcare?
We’re getting up close and personal with Dr. Renée on all the ways she does soulcare. From the key offerings she can’t do without to the must-have rituals that keep her skin and soul glowing, you’re going to want to take note of these top tips.
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO MORNING RITUAL?
With three kids my mornings are fast and furious once it’s go time, so my ritual begins with my reliable cup of coffee. (Only Ruta Maya Coffee beans will do.) I reflect on my goals for the day with some a.m. meditation. After showering, I apply our Let Me Glow Illuminating Priming Serum with niacinamide and the Protect Your Light Day Moisturizer with SPF 30. I always apply sunscreen last in my [morning] routine. I need it to be the strongest layer and not diluted. If I feel like I need a tint on top of my sunscreen, I will apply a little powder bronzer or blush.
HOW DO YOU SOULCARE AT NIGHT?
Typically when I start my nighttime ritual I start with cleansing; exfoliation a few times a week; followed by toner, serum, [and] eye cream; and I finish by moisturizing my skin barrier. The general rule when thinking about the order of application of products is that the lighter ingredients go on first and finish with heavier ones.
I wash with the Golden Face Cleanser then exfoliate with the Be Luminous Exfoliating Powder; it’s one of my favorite exfoliators because it effervesces with the application of water. I’m able to manage the consistency of the exfoliator with the application of a little water. The tannins from the hojicha powder are also beneficial to the skin.
[I then] apply a layer of Truly Becoming Multi-Benefit Serum. I love that it has a wonderful mixture of peptides to help plump my skin along with marine bamboo and multi-weight hyaluronic acid for hydration. I will often follow this with an additional layer of moisture using the Skin Transformation Face Cream.
HOW DO YOU DE-STRESS WITH PERSONAL CEREMONY?
I love winding down a busy day with a cup of turmeric tea. It calms me and brings me closure. I also find comfort in listening to the voice of Lester Holt on the nightly news. I often record the television show and replay it at night when picking up the kitchen after dinner. After preparing the kids’ lunches for the following day, I start my usual nighttime ritual, but follow this with the Comforting Balm on my lips. The comfort continues with my two bedtime musts: A weighted blanket and a side sleeper pillow. The pillow does not allow me to sleep on my face to avoid the “side wrinkle-sleep face” that people can develop over time.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR INTENTIONS FOR THE YEAR AND WHY?
I’d like to be more mindful of where I focus my attention and energy. I have learned to start being more selective about what matters, who matters, and how I spend my free time.
WHAT IS YOUR AFFIRMATION OF THE MOMENT AND WHY?
This quote is from Wayne Gretzky, hanging in our hallway: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” My children all play sports and I tell them this all the time. This quote transcends sports — it applies to the art of living.
