How Alicia’s beauty epiphany inspires us to give ourselves some extra love.
– KEYS SOULCARE
“Women have loose flesh and stretch marks: that is the truth. And yet it’s the lie — the unattainable standard — that is peddled in its place. We’ve been sold this lie so frequently that it has altered our very way of seeing.” — Alicia Keys
This reflection from Alicia’s More Myself was a revelation a lifetime in the making. After spending years of her life marketed through the lens of “standard” feminine beauty — airbrushing, expert lighting, fitness trainers, and all — it was learning to look in the mirror and love her real self that brought the most self-love and revelry into her life.
It became clear that false standards (being pushed by the media and commercial industries, left and right) were feeding the notion that we should never be quite happy with ourselves. It’s as if we could always be trimmer, thinner, and “better” in a future, unattainable state of being.
So, Alicia broke up with the lie of physical “perfection.” And we’re inviting you to, too.
Realizing perfection’s B.S. isn’t just about being happier in our own skin. (Though that’s a nice benefit, too.) It’s also about what we can embrace thereafter: a deeper reverence for what our tested-and-triumphant bodies have gone through. Appreciation for the years we get in them. And a deeper connection to the real, live beauties walking all around us — be they on a billboard or down the block.

How can you appreciate and honor your real, live body right now?
