– KEYS SOULCARE
When it comes to finding peace and practicality in life, Deidra Demens is a go-to for inspiration. Much like her yoga practice, Deidra embraces the power of body autonomy and vulnerability, allowing herself to find the beauty and support needed to power through her hardest lessons. In Deidra’s Soulcare 7, she gets to the heart of the matter, revealing the truth behind her strength and the morning ritual she savors.
1. Your favorite daily ritual that’s just for you?
Every morning, I wake up at 6 a.m. and I sit at my table by the window looking out to Brooklyn. I pray, watch the sky change colors, and enjoy this time with myself while I sip my coffee.
2. My dream for the future is…
I see more and more people investing in their happiness. They’re working on themselves and living their purposes. My dream in the work that I do is to help people in their journey towards healing, so that they may inspire other people and teach their kids how to live happy, healthy lives.
3. Your favorite part about yourself?
My heart because I’ve struggled, I’ve been hurt, and there were times [when] I felt defeated and alone. It was faith, strength, and compassion from my heart that helped me overcome those struggles. The strength of my heart makes me feel courageous to take risks when I need it, and makes me feel safe to be open and vulnerable when I need it.

4. How do you take a moment for yourself?
I love baths. My mom bought me a bath caddy as a housewarming gift. When I need to unwind, I run a bubble bath, light a candle, have a glass of wine, and listen to jazz while I soak. The Mo’ Better Blues soundtrack is the best bath music.
5. Your personal mantra of the moment?
Right now, my personal mantra is a quote from Maya Angelou: “Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it.”
6. What music, book, and/or podcast are you vibing to?
I really like Tobe Nwigwe’s music. As for podcasts, there is a lot that I listen to depending on what kind of mood I’m in. I listen to Undisputed because Shannon Sharpe is hilarious. I also listen to Oprah’s Super Soul, the Michelle Obama Podcast, StarTalk with Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and Say Your Mind with Kelechi Okafor when I need inspiration.
7. What does beauty look like to you?
Beauty to me is when we feel good on the inside, and everyone can see it on the outside. If someone is confident, kind, and open inside, when we [that they’re] beautiful. Or, when someone has a good heart and a caring soul, [we view them as] gorgeous and you just want to be around them.
Deidra loves a quiet and caffeinated morning. What’s your favorite way to start your day? Drop your rituals in the comments!
